Paypal, aside from being a huge financial success, has spawned a ton of really interesting companies and people doing interesting things (Slide, Yelp, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc) in a fairly short period of time. In my estimation, it appears to be one of the best Silicon Valley “family trees” since Netscape. I am curious to hear who people think might be the next great “family tree” in Silicon Valley. Facebook? Google? To clarify, great “family trees” are ones that spawn another generation of great start-up companies.
the next great family tree will most likely come from one of the PayPal branches… my bets 4-5 years hence would be on these:
1) Facebook
2) Slide
3) YouTube
i’m sure there are others as well, but those 3 have lots of hungry talented folks at tier 2 and below who probably will want to try it again 😉
